LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Drake's newest location on Outer Loop in Okolona is now officially open.
The restaurant held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Monday and opened for business at 11 a.m. This is the 12th Drake's in Kentucky, and the fourth in Louisville.
Drake's already has locations in St. Matthews, off Hurstbourne Parkway, and in the Paddock Shoppes in Louisville, as well as a restaurant in Jeffersonville, Ind.
Developer Lee Greer said he is excited about Drake's newest location.
"Louisville's been a great community for all of the Drake's, very, very high volume, wonderful restaurants," Greer said. "We have high expectations for Drakes here."
Drake's isn't the only new business coming to Okolona.
BJ's Wholesale is also scheduled to open near the Jefferson Mall later this year.
Lee Greer, Drake's restaurant is the developer of the project and president of Greer Companies out of Lexington, said earlier this year he'd also like to develop a hotel on the site. However, that's only an idea at this point and subject to change.
And the development in Okolona doesn't stop with Drake's. Further down Outer Loop, near the Jefferson Mall, BJ's Wholesale plans to open a new location with a gas station sometime this winter. And just off Preston Highway near the old library, a different developer has filed plans proposing retail and restaurant space, including a Starbucks.
