LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana's governor announced plans for a new $1 billion Microsoft Data Center.

The new facility will be in La Porte, in the northwestern part of the state. It will create up to 200 new jobs by the end of 2032.

Gov. Eric Holcomb made the announcement on X early Thursday morning.

The data center will hire environment engineers, IT technicians, security personnel and site managers.

Holcomb said the new facility will accelerate cloud computing infrastructure and support the growth of technology and artificial intelligence across the globe.

The 245,000-square-foot campus will help power the Microsoft Cloud.

The news comes several weeks after Holcomb announced in April plans for Amazon Web Services to build an $11 billion data center campus in the north central town of New Carlisle that could create as many as 1,000 jobs. The state has also been selected by Google for a $2 billion data center in Fort Wayne that's expected to create 200 jobs.
