LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The first açaí bowl café in west Louisville celebrated its grand opening Tuesday at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday morning at Açaí-Ville Café.

The Black-owned cafe was founded by April Rouson Walton and Laquan Walton, who grew up in west Louisville, according to a news release. Its mission is to bring healthy food options to the west Louisville, where they were born and raised.

"We wanted to give back to the place that raised us," co-founder April Rouson Walton said in the release. "West Louisville deserves access to healthier food options. It's about creating a movement that uplifts our community with every bowl we serve."

"Every street and every school here holds a memory for us," Laquon Walton added. "We wanted to invest in our people by introducing something fresh, healthy, and filled with love. Our bowls are more than food—they’re a reminder that we deserve wellness in our own neighborhood."

Açaí-Ville Café joins several other Black-owned businesses in the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center, which was founded by Sadiqa Reynolds, the center's current president.

"I absolutely love Açaí-Ville's fruit bowls," Reynolds said in the release.  "They are fresh, vibrant, and delicious -- but what I love most is these two people," Reynolds said. "April and Laquan are not just building a café; they are building community, health, and hope."
