LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A popular Louisville bar will open a new concept in the former spot of a popular fish place.
Old Louisville Tavern & Grill said its original location on South 4th Street gets too busy for the small space, impacting parking and making it difficult for those picking up to-go orders, according to our partners at Business First.
Hoping to take some pressure off the staff at that location, co-owners Dan Borsch and Scott Lukemire will open the Tavern to Go at 111 E. Hill St. in Old Louisville, offering carryout only.
The space was formerly occupied by Hill Fish & Seafood, also known as the Hill Street Fish Fry, which was open for 31 years before it closed in 2023.
Lukemire told Business First Borsch had purchased the location, not far from duPont Manual High School, after the fish restaurant's closure. The business partners thought it would be a good spot for people to be able to pick up their food and get out without having to deal with Old Louisville traffic.
After about $100,000 in renovations, Lukemire said he and Borsch expect to open the takeout spot in March. It will offer the same menu as the Old Louisville Tavern and Hillcrest Tavern, as well as the same hours of 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.Â
Borsch, who owns Burger Girl and Burger Boy in Louisville, opened the first Old Louisville Tavern on South 4th Street with Lukemire in 2013, with Hillcrest Tavern to follow on Frankfort Avenue in 2019.
The Tavern to Go is just around the corner from Burger Boy on South Brook Street, and a two- to three-minute drive around the corner from the Old Louisville Tavern on South 4th Street.
Last month, the co-owners announced plans to open a third location across the Ohio River. The New Albany Tavern will open on 114 East Market Street, in the downtown space formerly occupied by Pints & Union — which relocated to Bardstown Road in Louisville's Highlands neighborhood late last year. The hope is for the New Albany location to open in April and be open daily.
