LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Quills Coffee employees have voted to join a union.
The vote comes after owners agreed to recognize the workers' efforts to join the 32BJ Union. Quills employs about 50 baristas across seven locations in Louisville, as well as bakery and roastery workers.
In a written statement, Quills' founder and CEO Nathan Quillo said he appreciates the spirit of collaboration from workers, and looks forward to building a new coffee community.
"I’m grateful for the baristas and their positive approach to organizing," Quills said. "I appreciate their spirit of collaboration and look forward to building a new coffee community focused on a quality experience for customers and employees."
Quills is the third local coffee chain to unionize in the last few years. Heine Brothers and Sunergos are also part of the same union.
The coffee shop has several locations, including in the Highlands, St. Matthews, Frankfort Avenue, Chenoweth and Nulu.Â
