LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A popular outdoor retailer will open its first Kentucky store this fall in Louisville.
REI Co-op offers gear for camping, cycling, hiking and more. The new store will be located at the Paddock Shops on Summit Plaza Drive near Interstate 265.
The 31,100-square-foot store will feature a full service bicycle shop and curbside pickup.
REI said nearly 30,000 people in Louisville and almost 79,000 Kentuckians have a co-op membership in REI.
"We have been interested in Louisville for nearly a decade," Lindsay Struve, REI's regional director, said in a news release Wednesday. "Even prior to announcing our new store, more than 29,000 REI members from the community have connected with the co-op for their outdoor adventures through our online resources and stores in adjacent states. As we open our doors, we are also excited to develop lasting partnerships with local nonprofits to support their efforts to welcome more people outside."
The closest REI store to Louisville are in Cincinnati and Castleton, Indiana.
