LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Young people in Louisville shared their thoughts in a new survey aimed at shaping the future of the city.

An economic development survey was conducted by the Young Professionals Association of Louisville (YPAL) and unveiled at an event Wednesday evening.Ā

Responses show crime and safety are the most critical issues facing the city, followed by racial and social equity.

"This data will help inform Louisville Metro Government's policies and investments related to our economy and neighborhoods as the success of our city is dependent on retaining bright and talented young professionals who will lead our businesses, nonprofits, government, and educational institutions," Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said in a news release.

Participants of the survey were also asked what issues matter most to them. They responded with economic development and racial justice.Ā

At Wednesday's unveiling, local leaders gave their thoughts on what to do moving forward.Ā

"Move that work forward in the communities that you are in, for the people you represent, through the lens and identity that you hold," YPAL President Tanelle Sawyer said. "I'm really excited to truly see how not only we as young professionals continue to value, uplift, advocate for young professionals, but also the way business leaders in our communities do the same."

YPAL partnered with more than 15 Louisville organizations and more than 700 local young professionals for the 31-question survey.
