LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kroger hosted a grand reopening Thursday of its store at West Broadway and South 28th Street.

The store had a $1.8 million remodel that came with a spacious layout with improved decor, an expanded produce department, a revamped floral department, a redesigned deli and bakery and increased shelving along with new landscaping.

"Our team not only provides an exceptional experience for our customers, but also contribute to the economic development of this vibrant area," said Shane Smith, a Kroger Co. district manager. "We know how important our store is and how important it is to the community. And like I said at the round table, we're fully committed to this community and we're not going anywhere."

Along with the remodel announcement last summer, Kroger committed to the West Broadway location by investing $500,000 in increased wages. Kroger has been serving the area since 1929.
