Charity Corvette drive heads out of Louisville with $90,000 already raised for St. Jude

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The St. Jude Corvette Drive kicked off Thursday morning as 34 Corvette drivers from Louisville left around 7 a.m. from Kosair Shrine Center to head to St. Jude in Memphis, Tennessee.

Each driver commits to raising $1,250, and each passenger commits to raising $750. So far, more than $90,000 has been raised.

"We have a lot of fun doing this. It's a great time," said Larry Ott, coordinator of St. Judge Corvette Drive Louisville. "But when we actually get down to that campus and get to see what's going on down there and what this organization does on behalf of children, it just blows you away."

Events like the motorcycle drive help make sure families of children getting treatment at St. Jude don't have to pay for transportation, treatment, housing or food. And it's a thrill for those in Memphis as the Corvettes roll into town.

"I was battling AML leukemia, and, in the waiting room one day, the walls just started rumbling, and everyone starts perking up, looking around," said Hunter Davis, a cancer survivor and St. Jude recipient. "We're like 'What the heck is happening?' And we look out front and all these Corvettes start driving around. Man, it was a gamechanger for the day."
