CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) — Clarksville High School is paying permanent tribute to one of its best on the court.
Friday night before the boys' basketball team tipped off against Providence, the school unveiled a new name for the main gym.
The main gym at Clarksville High School will now be called Chuck Franz Gym.
Franz and his family were there for the dedication. Franz graduated from Clarksville in 1979, leading the Generals to two sectional titles in basketball.
He went on to play for Bobby Knight at Indiana University and was part of the 1981 NCAA Championship team.
Franz said the gym dedication is an off-the-chart highlight.
"It's surreal," Franz said. "I grew up across the street literally, one block across the street. Grew up playing in front of it then of course playing at Clarksville High School inside of it ... Now the incredible honor of having your name on it its just unbelievable."
Franz is in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and continues to support the Clarksville community.
