LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- For the first time, community members got the chance to weigh in on what they hope to see in the new Norton Children's Hospital in Jeffersontown.

The first of several listening sessions was held Tuesday evening at Tully Elementary School, though the plans have been years in the making.

The new children's hospital is not replacing Norton Children's in downtown Louisville. Instead, it's growing to expand access across the region.

The hope is that parents can stay closer to home instead of getting care for their children out of state.

Norton is gathering ideas for its 150-acre hospital campus in Jeffersontown because the hospital will be for a new generation of parents.

"Because by the time this facility is up and running, a lot of the parents that will be bringing children to this facility are, right now, in middle school and high school," Russell Cox, Norton Healthcare president and CEO, said.

More listening sessions will be held in Kentucky, as well as in Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee.

If you can't make it in person, an online survey can also be filled out.
