Louisville-based Humana offering early retirement to eligible employees

LOUIVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville-based Humana Inc. is offering early retirement packages to eligible employees.

According to our partners at Louisville Business First, the health care company is making the Voluntary Early Retirement Program available to employees across the company. To qualify, the employees have to be over 50 years old and have worked for the company for at least three years.

In an email to Business First, Director of Corporate Communications Mark Taylor said employees in some critical areas won't be eligible.

The exit package will have a payout of two weeks pay per year of service capped at 52 weeks of pay. Additional amounts of compensation will be based on job level.

Taylor said he didn't know how many employees may opt for early retirement in the next several weeks.

Humana is Louisville's seventh-largest employer with 10,000 employees, which could mean the retirement package could have a larger impact. The health care company employs a total of 63,000.

Humana used to occupy six buildings in downtown Louisville, but it has reduced its real estate footprint in recent years. The company vacated its namesake tower on West Main Street and moved all local employees to two buildings on the riverfront—the Clocktower Building and the newly-renovated Waterside Building.

Humana is Louisville's largest publicly traded company, according to Louisville Business First research, with $117.7 billion of revenue in 2024. That is up from $106.3 billion in 2023.
