LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police now confirm a teen was killed and a woman was injured when they were shot Tuesday in Louisville's Portland neighborhood. 

Louisville Metro Police spokesman John Bradley said in a release that 1st Division officers were called just before 11:30 a.m. on a report of two people shot on Garfield Avenue, a few blocks south of 29th and Bank streets.

When officers arrived, two victims were found with gunshot wounds. Lifesaving measures were taken for what police believe was an adult male, but he died at the scene. Family members told police the person killed was a teen. His name has not been released by the coroner's office. 

The woman police believe is in her 60s was shot was taken to UofL Hospital downtown with injuries not considered life-threatening. 

Terry Richardson is a longtime residents of the neighborhood. He said he heard gunfire, as he was coming out of his back door. He said the constant violence has changed how he lives. 

"It's a terrible things living like this because you don't want to come out of you house," Richardson said. "It's getting bad. All the violence, people coming and sleeping on your porch." 

The shooting happened just steps from the LMPD Portland substation. 

Richardson said he believes the shooting was the result of an attempted robbery, but police have not confirmed that. 

Another woman was injured at the scene and treated by EMTs for minor injuries, but police have not confirmed whether she was shot. 

LMPD has no known suspects. The Homicide Unit is investigating.
