LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A former southern Indiana mayor and school resource officer remains in jail on child sex charges after pleading not guilty in court on Monday.
Tim Armstrong, 63, was arrested last week on multiple felony charges after a 15-month investigation by Indiana State Police revealed he had "inappropriate communication with a juvenile male student" multiple times between April and August 2022.
During that time, Armstrong worked as an SRO in the Madison Consolidated School District. In August 2022, the district said there was an ongoing external investigation after getting a report of misconduct on Aug. 18.
Armstrong was put on administrative leave. Two weeks later, he resigned from both his position in the school district as well as his post as a Jefferson County sheriff's deputy.
According to court documents, Indiana State Police started looking into Armstrong about two weeks before his resignation after a male student told a school counselor that the former SRO asked him to make a video of himself performing a sex act.
The student went on to describe numerous occasions where Armstrong asked him sexual questions in person.
Armstrong used his official cell phone, issued by the sheriff's office, to search hundreds of porn websites looking for images of young boys, even while on duty as an SRO, court documents revealed.
He served as the mayor of Madison, Indiana, from 2008-11. He's now facing 11 charges, including child seduction and attempted promotion of child sex trafficking, among others.
Armstrong appeared in a Madison courtroom Monday morning where he pleaded not guilty. He's being held in the Jennings County Jail, with his trial set to start in March.
