LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jeffersonville Police Department is getting a new tool to help protect and serve the community.
A mobile command unit essentially takes officers and the tools within the police department to the action. It will be on the move for police standoffs and outdoor events like Thunder Over Louisville.
Noe Munoz recently purchased Hoopsters Sports Bar & Grill on 10th Street in Jeffersonville. Munoz already has lots of indoor and outdoor events planned for 2024, and expects to bring live bands every Saturday.

"I'm going to try to get ready as much as possible to plan a big party, Thunder and also as well as Derby, like a Derby party," Munoz said.
Whether it's a large celebration or even a standoff, Jeffersonville Police Department's new vehicle will help officers protect and serve the entire city.
"It's something that we've been looking at for the last eight years," said assistant chief Scott McVoy. "It's a large vehicle similar to a fire truck that's 35-feet long. It has multiple slide outs on the vehicle to allow more space for operations inside the vehicle."
On Wednesday, the city got approval to spend $1.2 million on a police command unit. The vehicle will be custom made for Jeffersonville.
"It's not like going to a car dealership and saying, 'hey I want a red one versus a blue one' or anything like that," McVoy said. "They build those from the ground up."
McVoy said once it's built, the mobile unit will be around for the next 25 to 30 years. It will be visible at major events.
"Some of the events that come such as Abbey Road on the River and the things that we're attracting now that draw large crowds," McVoy said. "We have a responsibility in Jeffersonville to provide public safety and this will be a great tool for us to use in the future."
Munoz is ready to see the new police vehicle in action.
"I think it's going to be great," Munoz said.
With the 2024 calendar filling up fast, Munoz is glad the police department is getting a new set of wheels.
"If that's going to make it possible to be on the scene at all times without them going anywhere, I think it would be a great addition to the department," Munoz said.
