LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A judge set the trial date for the man accused of breaking into the mansion of former Kentucky lawmaker Wesley Morgan and killing his daughter.
Shannon Gilday is accused of killing 32-year-old Jordan Morgan during the 2022 home invasion.
According to FOX56, during a status hearing Monday, a judge scheduled the trial to start on May 1, 2026, and continue through the end of the month.
Gilday's attorneys have tried to remove the death penalty from the case, arguing he has a serious mental illness. But the judge ruled the death penalty is still a possible penalty.
"Every time we come here, we feel like it's another wound being opened and we're ready to have some closure, to put this behind us," said Mica Nicole, a friend of Jordan Morgan. "I'm sick of seeing him in the courtroom."
A status hearing is scheduled for Jan. 20.
