LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Milwaukee man was arrested early Friday morning in Shelby County and charged with a murder police said happened a few hours earlier in Springfield, Kentucky.
Kentucky State Police said the Springfield Police Department requested assistance early Friday after the early-morning double shooting on Claybrooke Avenue.
The KSP investigation revealed Roosevelt Davis III, 23, forced his way into the home and shot two people: Kadesha Burch, 31, and a 52-year-old woman, both of Springfield. Burch — who is Davis' common-law wife, according to the arrest citation — was found dead by troopers inside the home, and the other victim was transported to a hospital in Lexington with an apparent gunshot wound to the face, police said.
He fired about 10 rounds in total, police said.
The Shelbyville Police Department said an officer stopped a Chevrolet Malibu speeding around 3 a.m. on Interstate 64. The driver of the car, identified by police as Davis, pulled off at the Simpsonville exit. During the stop, Shelbyville police said the officer learned Davis was wanted for a bank robbery that occurred Wednesday in Milwaukee. And police said further investigation found that KSP had just issued a look out for the car Davis was driving in connection to a recent murder in Springfield, which is just southeast of Bardstown in Washington County.
"Once the plate came back, dispatch was quick to let us know that he he had an active warrant out of Wisconsin," said Shelbyville Police Chief Bruce Gentry. "Then the next domino fell, you know. Oh, by the way, Kentucky state police is investigating. And then that's when he found out that there was more to the traffic stop."
After Davis was pulled over in Shelby County, more officers from the Simpsonville Police Department and deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office arrived as backup, and he was taken into custody. KSP then responded and took Davis into its custody.
According to his arrest citation, Davis told officers he robbed the bank in Milwaukee in order to get the money to purchase two guns and camouflage, drive to Kentucky and shoot the two victims. A spokesperson for the Milwaukee Police Department said Friday it's investigating a burglary that occurred around 6 p.m. Dec. 26 on North Swan Road in northwest Milwaukee.Â
"The suspect forced entry into the closed business and removed property," the spokesperson said in a written statement Friday. "The suspect was later identified and arrested in Kentucky."
Davis is charged with murder, attempted murder and first-degree burglary. He's being held in the Shelby County Detention Center on a $2 million bond.
Davis and Burch had a history of domestic incidents. According to an arrest citation from Oct. 5, 2024, Burch was charged with attempted murder after shooting Davis twice in the right leg at a home on Perryville Street, just southwest of Harrodsburg.
According to the citation, Burch told police she and David had been fighting all day and that Davis had strangled her. She told officers she was able to get away from him, get a gun and shoot him.
According to court documents, on Dec. 19, Burch's attempted murder charge was amended down by a grand jury to second-degree assault. On Dec. 23, four days before she was killed, she posted $10,000 bond.
