LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The man accused of setting off a bomb in a Louisville hotel room was in court Monday.

Leonard Pitchford made a brief appearance in court after being arrested earlier this month following an explosion at Springhill Suites in Lyndon. The 37-year-old is charged with 43 counts of wanton endangerment, using a weapon of mass destruction and arson.

In court Monday, Pitchford's attorney said his team was still waiting for a competency report. Another hearing date was set for Sept. 30.

Body camera footage was released last week of Pitchford's arrest by Lyndon Police Chief Robert Schroeder. He said officers responded to 10101 Forest Green Boulevard at the Springhill Suites the afternoon of Friday, June 20, to assist staff with a guest who didn't check out and wasn't responding to attempts of contact.

Hotel staff reported they noticed an electrical cord was used to tie up the swing lock on the door. When staff attempted to open the door, "an unknown device" went off and caught the room on fire, Schroeder said.

Lyndon police put out the active fire with a fire extinguisher.

The body camera footage shared by Schroeder Wednesday evening shows police taking Pitchford out of the room. He was naked, and set off some kind of explosive, according to police.
