LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police is asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect after shots were fired at Algonquin Park Saturday afternoon.
According to LMPD Sgt. Matt Sanders, police received a report of shots fired on the field near West Gaulbert Avenue and Catalpa Street at 4:55 p.m. Police working near the park responded to the report.
Police thoroughly checked the area, but didn't find any victims.
The shooting happened on the same day as the Algonquin Park Pool officially opened to the public. The pool had been closed since 2023, but a multi-million project renovated the public pool.
"We strongly condemn this reckless and irresponsible behavior," LMPD released in a statement. "Gun violence has no place in our parks, our neighborhoods, or anywhere in our city. The safety of our residents, especially our children and families, is our highest priority."
LMPD said police are committed to maintaining a strong and visible presence in parks and public spaces during the summer.
Anyone with information in this or any other case is asked to call LMPD's anonymous Crime Tip Line at 502-574-LMPD (5673). Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the department's online crime tip portal by clicking here.
