LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police is using an additional stable of security at shopping centers this holiday season.
LMPD's Mounted Patrol Unit is patrolling parking lots in shopping areas this December. The horses and police officers try to deter would-be shoplifters and also prevent people from breaking into cars in parking lots.
Police encourage people to lock vehicles and not leave valuables and bags out in the open.
"Any gifts purchased please lock them in your trunk or cover them if you are continuing to shop," LMPD posted. "In the evening hours park in well lit areas."
LMPD also encourages people to shop in pairs.
"Please make sure if you see our Mounted Patrol out to come say hi," LMPD said. "They always love meeting shoppers and having their pictures taken."
