LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 20-year-old arrested Monday while attempting to break into a local Louisville business confessed to police that he burglarized multiple other places.

Louisville Metro Police said in a social media post that Deandre Smith-Cowherd was arrested as he was breaking into a business around 2:15 a.m.

According to police, Smith-Cowherd confessed to committing five separate burglaries and four incidents of criminal mischief all in the same area.

Some of those crimes included break-ins at the California Community Center, which was targeted multiple times over recent months.

“Community centers like California serve as a vital hub for residents of all ages, and we take any violations on these facilities very seriously” Michelle King, the executive director of Louisville Parks and Recreation, said in a news release. “These spaces belong to the community, and we are committed to protecting them.”

He's been charged with four counts of criminal mischief and five counts of burglary. Smith-Cowherd is being accused of stealing computer equipment from the community center.

“The parks safety team and I worked closely with the Louisville Metro Police Department to deploy increased investigative measures resulting in Mr. Smith-Cowherd’s capture,” said Chief Park Ranger James Brown in a news release. “The ultimate goal of the Park Ranger Program is to increase the safety of our parks and community centers, and this is a great example of how we work together to accomplish this goal.”

Smith-Cowherd appeared in court Tuesday where his bond was set at $100,000 and is next court date is scheduled for Sept. 3.
