LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man is accused of shooting and killing his wife before turning the gun on himself earlier this month.

It happened July 8 in the 4100 block of Lambert Avenue, off Bardstown Road near Appliance Park. That's where police found 34-year-old Bashar Ghazawi and his wife, both suffering from gunshot wounds.

The woman, 32-year-old Noor Ghazawi, died at the scene.

According to the arrest report, a witness told officers he saw Ghazawi shoot the woman several times before shooting himself.

Police took Ghazawi into custody and sent him to University Hospital with critical injuries. Assistant County Attorney Adrienne Earley said Ghazawi tried to escape.

"He was being held at University Hospital where he attempted to flee and escape while he was a patient there, so while he may not be a high risk his behavior shows otherwise," Earley said.

Ghazawi's attorneys said they needed to look further into those claims.

Ghazawi appeared in court on July 24 on charges of murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. The judge raised his bond from $75,000 to $100,000. His next court date is set for early August.
