LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 27-year-old man convicted of causing a DUI crash that killed a woman in 2022 has learned his sentence.

Jefferson Circuit Court Judge Patricia Morris ordered 27-year-old Devyn Brock to spend five years in prison on charges of manslaughter and assault.

Earlier this year Brock pleaded guilty to those charges in connection with the death of Savannah Duckworth. She was a passenger in the backseat of a vehicle driven by Brock when it crashed near Algonquin Parkway and South 42nd Street in the early morning hours of Sept. 10, 2022.

Police said Brock was speeding when the vehicle left the road and slammed into a tree. Duckworth, who was 22 at the time, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. Another woman in the backseat was hospitalized with critical injuries, and a man in the front seat also received minor injuries.

After his arrest, Brock admitted to drinking and driving, according to court documents.

Officers who responded to the scene said they smelled alcohol on Brock's breath and found three empty cans of Mike's Hard Lemonade on the ground near the crash, as well as three unopened cans in the vehicle. The toxicology report showed Brock's blood alcohol level at .083.
