LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man has been arrested for cutting communication wiring.

In a news release, Louisville Metro Police said an AT&T technician noticed "unusual movement" in overhead lines and saw Brian Hampton, 44, "actively tampering with the wiring." The technician called police, who responded and arrested Hampton.

He's charged with several counts of criminal mischief, trespassing on key infrastructure assets and more.

"This case underscores the importance of vigilance and community partnership in protecting Louisville’s infrastructure," LMPD said Friday in a Facebook post. "Damage to communications wiring not only disrupts essential services but also poses serious risks to public safety."

Hampton appeared in court on Sept. 19, when a judge set a $50,000 bond. He's next scheduled for a hearing Sept. 29.
