LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police believe the teenager shot at Waterfront Park after Thunder Over Louisville was targeted.
LMPD doesn't believe the shooting near the Purple Lot was random. Police believe the teenager was targeted on Saturday night.
Mayor Craig Greenberg said, "the male heard his name called before he was shot."
The shooting happened in a parking lot directly under Interstate 65 around 10:30 p.m. In a post on X, LMPD said its officers, Kentucky State Police and EMS crews were at the scene.
When officers arrived on scene, they found a teenage male with a gunshot wound.
Police confirmed a juvenile male had been shot in the stomach and was being transported to University Hospital.
Andre Yates, a Louisville native, wished shootings never happened, especially after a family-event like Thunder Over Louisville.
"It's crazy, why do it in public," Yates said. "In a big crowd? What are you trying to prove. It's crazy. I wish it hadn't happened, but it did. Police are doing their best, but what can we do."
LMPD's Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is handling the investigation, but has made no arrests and has no suspects. LMPD said it will continue to work diligently to bring closure and justice to the victim and his family.
"It's crazy what the young people doing," Yates said. "And you know, he was minding his business, you know, and all of a sudden, could've been an accident. But he got shot in the stomach, the young fellow. I'm sorry that it happened, but I am glad he is doing alright."
