LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man was arrested Monday in connection with a shooting last year in downtown Louisville.

The shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. April 29, 2025, in the 200 block of East Broadway, near Brook Street by a bus stop, Louisville Metro Police said at the time.

Once on scene, police found a man who had been shot. He was taken to University of Louisville Hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

Monday, 42-year-old John Long was arrested on charges of assault, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, firearms discharge prohibited and pending federal charges unrelated to the shooting.

According to an arrest citation, surveillance cameras caught Long and the victim yelling at one another before the shooting. During the verbal altercation, police said Long got out a handgun and fired one round at the victim, hitting him in the shoulder before fleeing the scene. Police said the shooting happened outside of several businesses.

Long was identified as the suspect through "investigative measures" and a recent follow up in the investigation. Long is a convicted felon out of Kentucky who cannot own or possess any firearms. Police said he has a history of assault convictions and being a fugitive from another state.

Long pleaded not guilty in arraignment court Tuesday morning and his bond was set at $75,000 cash. He remains behind bars at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections awaiting his next court appearance on April 1.
