Man held on $50,000 bond in December shooting near Louisville's airport

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was arrested Friday in connection with a shooting that happened in December near Louisville's airport.

Louisville Metro police responded to the 100 block of East Wellington Avenue just before 8:30 p.m. Dec. 20 on a reported shooting, a department spokesperson said at the time. That's off East Woodlawn Avenue, not far from South Second Street and Southern Parkway, in the city's Beechmont neighborhood.

Once on scene, officers found a man who had been shot in the arm. He was transported to University of Louisville Hospital and expected to survive his injuries.

Monday morning, LMPD said officers arrested Ismael Delgado-Guitierez, 30, Friday afternoon on a warrant in connection to the shooting.

Delgado-Guitierez was taken to Metro Corrections on charges of assault and receiving stolen property.

According to an arrest citation, detectives with LMPD's Criminal Interdiction Divisions Violent Crime Unit were surveilling Delgado-Guitierez, who was using an alias. They found him as the passenger of a van at the intersection of Taylor Boulevard and Arcade Avenue.

Detectives followed the vehicle to the intersection of Kenwood Avenue and New Cut Road, where they conducted a "vehicle takedown," the citation said, by activating their lights and sirens. When taking Delgado-Guitierez into custody, detectives found a Glock-style handgun in the center console. The driver of the van said it was not his and that it belonged to Delgado-Guitierez.

Police were given permission by the driver to search the vehicle and they retrieved the gun, which was listed as stolen through the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Delgado-Guitierez pleaded not guilty in arraignment court Monday and his bond was set at $50,000 cash. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 20.
