LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man and a woman were taken to the hospital after they were shot in their car on Dixie Highway.

LMPD spokesman Matthew Sanders said in a news release that officers were flagged down around 12:30 a.m. in the Waffle House parking lot on Cane Run Road. That's where they found the couple, both with injuries.

The man was shot in the hip, while the woman had a leg injury. They told officers that they were in their car in the 5300 block of Dixie Highway when it was shot at.

Officers then went to that area and found the car with multiple bullet holes, Sanders said.

Both were taken to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and are expected to survive.

LMPD's Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is investigating, as detectives work to learn what led up to the shooting and what a possible motive could be.

There are no known suspects at this time, but anyone with information in this or any other case is asked to call LMPD's anonymous Crime Tip Line at 502-574-LMPD (5673). Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the department's Crime Tip Portal by clicking here
