More charges filed against woman accused of murder, burglary in Jackson County, Indiana

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- More charges were filed in a bizarre murder case out of Jackson County, Indiana.

Ashley Jones now faces two counts of attempted murder — on top of the murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and burglary charges she already faced.

Police said Jones conspired with her mother to kill her mother's husband, Harold Allen.

It all started when Jones' mom, Marsha Allen, reported that someone broke into her Jackson County, Indiana, home last October, stealing jewelry and guns.

Allen suspected Jones was involved because she was the only one who knew the combination to the gun safe.

When police talked to two other suspects, one of them said Marsha Allen poisoned her husband Harold Allen, who died in December 2022.

Deputies eventually found text messages between the mother and daughter discussing the murder.

Then, after the burglary, police found Marsha Allen dead in her home last October.

Jones confessed to ordering ethylene glycol — an odorless, colorless chemical commonly use in antifreeze — off the internet. She told police her mother was the one who put the chemical in Harold Allen's drink to kill him.

Authorities still haven't released information about how the mother died.

If convicted, Jones faces life in prison. Her trial is set for January 2025, more than a year after she was first arrested for the crimes.
