LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Ohio man with a grenade was arrested in Hardin County, according to police.
Hardin County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of an armed suspect at Tabbs Hollow Road in Summit. Police said Daniel Bennett was allegedly armed with a "live grenade."
Deputies started to negotiate with the suspect and believed he was under the influence of narcotics and appeared to have mental health issues.Â
The sheriff's office said the suspect became irate after attempts to provide mental health support.Â
"Deputies approached the suspect and utilized less lethal force to preserve human life," Hardin County Sheriff's Office said.Â
The device was later confirmed to be a smoke grenade. It was detonated after he was arrested.
Police said the suspect received medical attention from Hardin County EMS and was taken to Baptist Health Hardin. He was later cleared and then taken to Hardin County Jail.
Bennett faces numerous felony and misdemeanor charges in Hardin County, according to the sheriff's office. Some of those charges include 1st degree assault on a police officer, terroristic threatening, wanton endangerment, possession of marijuana, among other charges.Â
