LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was shot and killed on New Year's Day in Louisville's Portland neighborhood.

Louisville Metro Police spokesman Aaron Ellis said the call came in around 11 p.m. Monday of reports of a person down in the area of 20th and Lytle streets.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a man in the back of the residence suffering from a gunshot wound. Ellis said the victim was pronounced deceased when officials arrived.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified him Tuesday as 31-year-old Stepphon Pattrick Garner.

LMPD's Homicide Unit is handling the investigation and detectives are canvassing the area. There are no know suspects at this time.
