LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A murder suspect is facing additional charges after running from officers and tossing a stolen gun as they tried to arrest him, according to police.

Detectives from the Louisville Metro Police Department's Fugitive Unit were helping Shively police track down Demarco Coney Jr., 23.

Coney was indicted by a grand jury for complicity to murder, along with about a dozen other charges stemming from a homicide at a Shively apartment complex in late April, according to court documents.

He's accused of firing shots into an apartment on Appleton Lane. Police said there was a family gathered inside, including two children. Ronald Washington III was shot and taken to the hospital where he died during surgery. A woman was also grazed by a bullet.

Police tracked down Coney on Thursday, and said he ran from officers and pitched a stolen gun.

He's now facing additional charges for being a convicted felon with a handgun.

Another man was also charged in Washington's death. Kevin Kennebrew, 29, was arrested and charged with his murder a few days after the shooting.
