LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A southern Indiana man pleaded guilty to aggravated battery in court Wednesday.

Jordan Cunningham, 24, was arrested in Sellersburg in February 2023, accused of shooting his wife in the chest.

At the time of the incident, the Clark County Sheriff's Office said officers responded to a report of a shooting on Autumn Ridge Drive in the Autumn Ridge subdivision. When officers arrived, they found a woman who had been shot in the chest.

The victim was seriously hurt, but survived.

According to court documents, Cunningham and his wife got into a fight after a medical appointment. When she turned around, Cunningham was standing behind her with a gun in his hand. He fired, hitting her in the chest, then called 911 to report the shooting.

Cunningham, of Georgetown, was originally charged with attempted murder and several other felony charges, including domestic battery and criminal recklessness. Those charges were eventually dropped.

The aggravated battery charge carries a prison sentence of three to 16 years. Cunningham is scheduled to be sentenced May 21.
