LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- St. Matthews Police is looking for a suspect who police say tried breaking into a car behind a post office, and when approached by a postal worker, pointed the gun at the postal worker.
Chief Barry Wilkerson said this took place around 11 a.m. on Monday at the St. Matthews branch postal office, in the Shelbyville Road Plaza.
"We had an individual that was breaking into a postal employee's car. A colleague of his actually saw this individual do that," Wilkerson said. "The colleague confronted the suspect. The suspect had actually gained a weapon out of the vehicle, pointed it at that individual, and then took off."
Wilkerson said it called for LMPD Air Unit and canines to help locate the individual.
As of Monday afternoon, the suspect had not been located, but it is believed to have been an isolated incident according to police.
Wilkerson described him as a young teen male, wearing a white shirt and gray or khaki colored pants.
During the busy holiday season and when more people are out shopping, Wilkerson said this is a good time to remind people to always lock their car doors.
"If you have a weapon there, lock it in another compartment, or take it with you. If you have any valuables, put them out of sight, into a trunk. Somehow, some way, out of sight, out of mind," Wilkerson said.
While police consider this an isolated incident, it is another troubling situation for postal workers.
LMPD is still looking for at least two suspects from a series of robberies last week all involving mail carriers. A $150,000 reward is being offered for information about the armed robberies.
The postal workers were targeted last week. Three robberies occurred within about 40 minutes at different locations across the city.
Investigators called the incidents a coordinated effort.
The robberies happened between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. at Hartlage Court, Crittenden Drive, and Cypress Street, according to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. No postal workers were injured in the incidents.
