LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The trial for a southern Indiana man accused of stabbing his wife to death on Valentine's Day has been rescheduled.

Taylor Meyer's trial was set to start Tuesday, five months after he was arrested and jailed without bond.

According to court documents, police responded to the couple's home in the 6600 block of Westwood Drive the evening of Feb. 14 on a call from a friend of the victim reporting that she was in danger. The friend told dispatchers he could hear the victim screaming for help when he got a call from her phone.

Police arrived at the home and knocked on the door, but got no response. The friend who called police also arrived on scene, sharing information that made the call an "emergency rescue effort," Jeffersonville police said at the time of the incident.

According to court documents, while speaking with officers at the scene the friend was sent a photo from the victim's phone of the victim unconscious on the floor. Police said she appeared to be bleeding in the photo.

As officers breached the front door, the garage door opened and Meyer, 34, stepped outside. Police said he was non-compliant and aggressive toward officers. He was eventually taken into custody.

Meyer's 36-year-old wife was found dead inside the home. The couple's three young children—each under the age of five—were inside the home at the time.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Meyer choked and beat his wife several times to the point of unconsciousness before stabbing her dozens of times and sending a photo of her body to a family group chat. The PCA said the victim had been stabbed 40 times, citing autopsy reports.

During a police interview, Meyer told investigators he had planned a special Valentine's evening for the two of them. He said he became upset when she seemed distant and an argument ensued, detailing to police why he believed his wife was seeing another man. He also admitted to sending the photo to his wife's family group text.

Meyer was charged with murder, appointed a public defender and taken to the Clark County Jail where he has remained behind bars without bond.

In May, a judge denied Meyer's request to set a reasonable bond in the case or release him on his own recognizance, stating in the order that the Court found Meyer is a flight risk, and "the state has shown a preponderance of the evidence that proof is evident and the presumption strong."

Meyer's trial was scheduled to start Tuesday, July 15. But court documents show the trial has been rescheduled to Aug. 19. No reasoning for the rescheduled trial date was immediately available.
