LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Shelbyville, Kentucky, woman was arrested after police said she hit a man while driving drunk.
Sherrie Martin, 31, was arrested early Sunday by Louisville Metro Police and charged with wanton endangerment and DUI.
According to an arrest citation, Martin was driving drunk on Shelbyville Road, near Moser Road, around 11:49 p.m. Saturday, July 26.
Witnesses at the scene told police she hit a man who was already lying in the roadway from being hit by a different driver, who police said stayed at the scene.
Officers said they smelled alcohol on Martin's breath. The passenger in her vehicle told police both of them had been drinking prior to driving.
One witness — who was cited in Martin's arrest citation — told police she was driving nearby at the time of the incident, saw the man lying in the road and tried to alert the person in an oncoming vehicle — Martin — by honking her horn. But police said Martin continued and hit the man.
Police said the man's injuries are life-threatening. He remains in the hospital in critical condition.
Martin, who remained at the scene, was taken into custody on charges of wanton endangerment and DUI just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday. She's due in court Wednesday morning.
