LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman was fatally shot at an apartment complex in Simpsonville early Wednesday, and police are searching for suspects.

Simpsonville Police said in a news release that officers responded to reports of shots fired at the Veechdale Apartments in the 200 block of Buck Creek Road around 12:40 Wednesday morning. 

That's where police said they found a woman who had been shot. Shelby County EMS responded, but she died at the scene. 

Shelby County Coroner Jeff Ivers identified the woman on Thursday as 41-year-old Brenda Selene Chiquita Acua. 

Simpsonville Police said they believe it was an "isolated incident" but the case is being investigated as a homicide. 

The Shelbyville Police Department and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the response at the scene.
