LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Curtis Morrison with the group Progress Kentucky admits in an article on Salon.com that he and Shawn Reilly secretly recorded Sen. Mitch McConnell at his Kentucky campaign headquarters.

And, although Morrison says in the article an assistant U.S. attorney has notified him that a grand jury will hear charges against him, he says he would make such a recording again.

In the article, Morrison says he is the person who leaked the recording to the left-leaning magazine Mother Jones.

On the recording, you can faintly hear Sen. McConnell talk about using hardball tactics to go after any potential challenger.  "I assume most of you have played the, the game Whac-A-Mole?" (Laughter.) This is the Whac-A-Mole period of the campaign…when anybody sticks their head up, do them out," McConnell is heard saying.

Later an unidentified aide is heard discussing Ashley Judd's mental health issues as potential political fodder.  " …she's suffered some suicidal tendencies. She was hospitalized for 42 days when she had a mental breakdown in the '90s," a male voice said.

In the article, Morrison claims, "the line between journalism and espionage has grown thin."  He also says he never expected the criticism he received from some Democrats, including Third District U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth, whom he describes as one of his personal heroes.

Meanwhile, the recordings went viral, and Morrison says that's when his personal life took a nosedive.  He says he was fired, forced to live in his Jeep, and began to drink heavily.

Morrison has since moved to California and plans to attend law school there in the fall.
