LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Was Saturday's spectacular Thunder Over Louisville an attendance record breaker? We'll never know.

The Kentucky Derby Festival said it won't provide estimated crowd numbers like it has done in the past because assessing attendance has gotten tougher.

Thunder is not a ticketed event, so there is no exact head count. Plus, there are several different places to watch along the waterfront in Kentucky and Indiana, and many of them are indoors.

KDF told WDRB News that it's not about the numbers but the experience and the moment. It said that this year's Thunder was better than it could've imagined.

The return of the airshow and fireworks to the Louisville waterfront did bring out large crowds downtown and in southern Indiana. Saturday's perfect weather also added to speculation that the huge crowd set a record.
