LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two recent graduate from Fairdale High School are now firefighters thanks to the school's fire pathway program.
Cameron Croney and Brandon Smith graduated in May. They are now already training with Anchorage Middletown Fire Department after participating in the JCPS Fire Pathway program.
It gives students interested in being firefighters a head start in their careers with hands on training and learning the basics of firefighting.
One local fire chief said it's a win-win for students and local departments.
"It's not like taking a true civilian from zero to 60 so they got a little bit of a head start but we still got to teach them what they really need to know," said Anchorage Middletown Fire Department Chief Kevin Tyler.
"Without that program none of this would be a thing," Croney said. "It's just a blessing for sure."
Tyler said students in the fire pathway program have a 90% chance of getting hired out of the program.
