$21M expansion aims to transform St. Mary of the Knobs campus

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic School is undergoing a $21 million campus transformation that includes a new 60,000-square-foot education center designed to serve up to 500 students.

According to our partners at Louisville Business First, the project will bring students in preschool through eighth grade under one roof.

Principal Tracy Jansen told LBF the new building will bring students together while creating a safer, more modern learning environment.

The education center will include two classroom wings. One wing will serve preschool through second grade, while the other will serve students in third through eighth grade.

Jansen said the new layout will also improve school safety by reducing the need for students to walk between multiple buildings for classes such as art, music and physical education.

Construction began in May. While there is no firm completion date, school leaders expect the project to take about 18 months.

The expansion is being funded through the school's Rising in Faith capital campaign, which has surpassed its original $18 million fundraising goal by raising $21 million.

St. Mary of the Knobs currently enrolls about 400 students. School leaders have not announced plans for the existing buildings once the new education center is complete.
