LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A blood drive at the Marion C. Moore School will help save lives in Kentucky.
Students are benefitting from the blood drive held Friday because they're getting money for the medical program for each student and teacher who donates blood.
"It's very important. This is one of the big parts of covering our expenses for HOSA so we can compete once a year," said Ernesto Alvarez, a junior HOSA student.
The schools' Future Health Professionals Club (HOSA) partnered with the Kentucky Blood Center to organize, plan and assist with blood donations.Â
KBC is giving the HOSA club money for each student who donates during the drive. That money will help fund opportunities outside of school for students seeking a career in the medical field. But dozens of students and staff are helping to save lives in Kentucky because of their donations.
"All of our HOSA students get the opportunity to come in and see what it's like to run a blood drive, and also they get to give back to the community by signing people up to donate," Kimberly Bruce, Allied Health teacher at Moore, said.Â
There will be two more blood drives this year at the school. One will be held in December and another will be held in the spring.
