LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An English teacher from Eminence Independent Middle School was named Kentucky's 2025 Teacher of the Year.

The Kentucky Department of Education honored Jennifer Montgomery on Tuesday at the state capitol.

Montgomery grew up in Trimble County without running water or telephone service. She said parts of her past inspired her to use project-based learning in the classroom.

"I'm proud today to represent over 40,000 other Kentucky educators who are doing the same things in their classrooms, changing one child's life at a time by helping them simply realize their stories are important because they are important," Montgomery said in a news release.

KDE said Montgomery has spent the entirety of her 23-year teaching career with Eminence Independent Schools.

Six other educators were also recognized as semifinalists. Montgomery was one of three finalists for the annual award, alongside Scott Johnson, of Barren County, for the elementary school division, and Hayley Dant, of Boone County, for the high school division.
