LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A day after Elizabethtown Independence Schools requested a police presence at TK Stone Middle School because of a threat on social media, police announced they made an arrest.
According to a news release from Chris Denham, the public affairs officer for the Elizabethtown Police Department, police quickly determined the threat wasn't credible and arrested the male juvenile suspect within 12 hours of receiving it.
The Elizabethtown Police Department said Monday on Facebook that it was contacted by the district about a social media post that threatened the students and staff at the school.
Denham said the threat "caused a significant disruption to the normal operations of Elizabethtown Independent Schools and understandably left students, staff, and community members concerned."
The suspect is now charged with terroristic threatening and is being held in a juvenile detention facility, according to the release.
"I hope this sends a strong message that threats of any kind against our schools, students, or staff will not be tolerated," Denham said in the release. "We will continue to take swift and consistent action in every instance where such behavior occurs."
Police said schools across the state received similar threats, including in Marion County. That district canceled classes Monday after a threat against Marion County High School.
Marion County Public Schools officials decided to cancel classes Monday after becoming aware of the social media posts which contained violent threats that were made on Sunday evening.
In a Facebook post, the district said classes were canceled "out of an abundance of caution."
Police arrested a 16-year-old boy in that case. He is charged with terroristic threatening.
