JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- Greater Clark County Schools broke ground Wednesday on a brand new natatorium at Jeffersonville High School.

The current pool at Jeffersonville High School is 50 years old and will be replaced by the new project. The new 50-meter stretch will be 10 lanes and seat up to 1,000 fans.

The natatorium will also feature a batch of brand-new locker rooms that will be big enough to accommodate multiple teams as well as Jeffersonville's football, track and swim teams.

"How exciting is it?" Jeffersonville High School Principal Pam Hall said Wednesday. "It has been decades in the making and it's such an honor to be leading and to be part of this community where we can have such a record-breaking day on something that's going to impact after we're long gone."

The school board is hoping to be completed with the project by the 2026 school year.
