LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jefferson County Public Schools will not implement a new state law addressing school safety.
This past legislative session, Kentucky's General Assembly passed the "guardians" bill.
The bill would allow school districts to hire retired police officers or veterans to work as armed guards at schools.
The legislation passed as many school districts have struggled to hire resource officers after a 2022 mandate that every school must have one.
Districts were given the option to implement it or not. During a policy committee meeting, board members said the district would not take part.
