LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kentucky has nearly 100 more school resource officers protecting public school campuses this year compared to last year, according to a new statewide school safety report.
Gov. Andy Beshear announced Thursday that 937 school resource officers are currently assigned to public school campuses across Kentucky.
That's up from 841 during the previous school year.
The numbers were included in Kentucky's newly released School Safety Risk Assessment Report, which also found that nearly all public schools are complying with required security measures.
Those measures include electronically locking front doors, surveillance systems, locked classroom doors, classroom window coverings and threat assessment teams.
Kentucky law requires every public school campus to have a school resource officer. Beshear signed legislation in 2022 requiring an officer on each campus.
