LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's back-to-school season, and a Louisville pediatrician said a good bedtime routine can go a long way toward making children successful in class.
Norton Children's Dr. Mark Brockman said "bath, book, and bed" is a good habit year round, especially when trying to get back in the school routine. He said you can help your kids get a good night's sleep by eliminating screen time before bed, making sure they drink plenty of water throughout the day and encouraging outdoor play time to burn off excess energy.
"If you can do that, the child is going to do a lot better,: Brockman said. "Everybody's lives can be a lot easier. School is going to be a lot more fun for them, with them not being too tired and that kind of stuff. So starting off on the right foot is very important."
Brockman recommends a high-protein breakfast to give kids energy and prevent an afternoon crash.
