LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Jefferson County Public Schools academy held a celebration of culture Friday afternoon.
Flags, traditional clothing and songs filled the halls of Newcomer Academy as part of a Global Homecoming Parade.
The parade showcased all of the different cultures represented at the school. Doors and hallways were decorated to represent different countries.
There was even a door dedicated to Trinidad and Tobago in honor of Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood, who joined students and staff in celebration.
"I told my advocacy group and they were very excited to welcome him today and they were like 'Oh, superintendent, an immigrant can be superintendent,' they were very excited," Krishna Dhakal, Newcomer Academy teacher, said. "So I believe they met him, they are super excited, it gives them motivation."
Newcomer Academy is both a school and welcoming center for immigrant students.
