LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Fern Creek High School student faces disciplinary action after bringing a knife to school Tuesday.
Principal Dr. Rebecca Nicolas said in a letter sent home to families a student reported to staff that another student might have a knife.
School officials immediately followed District Safety Protocols and found the weapon.
Nicolas said the knife wasn't used in a threatening way but bringing a weapon to school violates the student handbook.
The full letter can be read below:
Dear Fern Creek High School families,
"I am writing to make sure you have the most accurate information I can provide about a situation that impacted our school today.
This morning, a student reported to our staff that another student might have a knife with them at school. We immediately followed our District safety protocols and found a knife on the student. While the student did not use the knife in a threatening way, bringing any weapon to school is a serious violation and the student will be disciplined in accordance with the Student Support and Behavior Intervention Handbook (SSBBIH).
We want to thank the student who brought this to our attention. Please remind your student that if they ever see or hear something concerning, they should report it to a trusted adult or administrator right away.
Thank you for continuing to support a safe, respectful, and responsible school community."
Sincerely,
Dr. Rebecca Nicolas
Principal
